Family Law Facilitator

A family law facilitator helps people representing themselves in legal situations regarding child support, spousal support and/or health insurance issues.

In Los Angeles County, the Office of Family Law Facilitator consists of paralegals, attorneys and other types of legal personnel. These individuals do not provide legal advice, nor do they represent persons in court. Further, there is NO attorney-client relationship or any form of attorney-client confidentiality situations.

A family law facilitator can help with paperwork for the following family law issues:

  • Establishing, modifying (changing), or ending spousal support
  • Establishing, changing, or ending child support
  • Establishing, changing, or ending health insurance order
  • Determine late payments (arrearages) of child support and/or spousal support
  • Create repayment plans for support orders
  • Seek reimbursement of child support and/or spousal support overpayments made
  • Stop or change wage assignment orders

And, according to the Los Angeles County Office of Family Law Facilitator website, it can also help with the following family law situations:

  • Provides information and prepares draft calculations of support amounts based on statutory guidelines
  • Provides referrals to the Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department, Family Court Services and other community agencies
  • Educates and assists parties to prepare stipulations for parties who agree to child support, spousal support or health insurance
  • Educates and assists parties to prepare answers to Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department complaints
  • Educates and assists parties to prepare motions to set aside in cases involving the Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department
  • Educates and assists parties to prepare Orders After Hearing and Wage Assignment Orders in which child support, spousal support or health insurance are at issue in family law cases
  • Mediates child support, spousal support and health insurance issues between the parties
